Back on April 17, 2012, Toshiba TEC acquired IBM Retail Store Solutions (IBM RSS). IBM RSS consists of the retail point-of-sale solutions from IBM, including the SurePOS product line, AnyPlace Kiosk, Self Checkout and software. Through the acquisition, Toshiba TEC and IBM RSS formed a new company called Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, and phase 1 of the transition to this new company began on August 1, 2012. The two companies have a combined 80 years of retail experience, and they have consistently brought ground-breaking technology to the industry.
Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is keeping the same leadership team from IBM RSS, as well as the same points of contact for its Business Partners and customers. The SurePOS product line will continue on with Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions as well.
At ScanSource, we are very excited about the future with Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions. This is going to be a good opportunity to build on retail solutions and further advance the retail vertical market. The new company will have stronger power to deliver highly tailored solutions to help differentiation for retailers and to improve their bottom line.
We’re working hard behind the scenes to try to make the transition from IBM RSS to Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions as seamless to our Business Partners as possible.
