I posted recently on the value of LinkedIn for your business, now I’ll share a post from Sean Jackson at Copyblogger on 16 Smarter Ways to Use LinkedIn to Build Your Business.

You may be using LinkedIn as a glorified job board, but did you know that it can be a great B2B lead generation tool as well. Read the article to find out how to optimize your profile, reach out to new connections and promote your business on LinkedIn.

Here are some of the tips provided in the article:

Don’t get clever with your picture – Make sure it is a shot of your face, not a logo.

Headlines matter (as always) – Include at least your title and your company.

You are more than your job – Include personal interests in your profile as well.

Work your recommendations – Use the Request Recommendations tool to get them, and write them for your contacts.

Update your email signature line – Your email signature is often a great starting point to connect with others.

Dominate the All Updates area – Post relevant information that appears directly on the LinkedIn home page of your connections.

Participate in LinkedIn groups – Joining and participating in a LinkedIn group is an easy way to build authority through comments and discussion postings.

Did you know you can send out email newsletters to your contacts? – The Compose Message feature in your inbox lets you email up to 50 contacts at a time.

Work your company page – Recently, LinkedIn introduced company pages — an easy way to provide additional details about your business.
