Mobile Cashiers Help with Tax Collections

Shelby County, TN sent mobile cashiers out to help with tax collections. These mobile cashiers had a laptop, a mag stripe reader and a receipt printer. Delinquent tax payers came to the property tax collection posts located at community buildings, such as a library, to pay their taxes.

Those that took advantage of the mobile cashier station, the majority of which were senior citizens, did not feel comfortable paying taxes or processing payments online. They still got the personal touch and human interaction without having to worry about parking in downtown Memphis. This technology allows for the best of both worlds – the human factor and progressing technology. Shelby County collected $1.1 million in tax payments in one week using the mobile cashiers. That sounds like a plan that works!
