Extreme Networks recently announced its BlackDiamond X8 is now certified by VCE as “Vblock Ready.” Vblock sits as the leading converged infrastructure among data center solutions, and Extreme stands to benefit from Vblock’s existing and future installs.

Specifically, The BlackDiamond X8 serves to cluster multiple Vblocks and enable sub-second failover should one block fail, or enable seamless vMotions across pods. The use case scenarios span many verticals from major financial institutions to high compute data centers.

Marty Lans, Extreme’s Director of Data Center Marketing, believes the certification will further root Extreme as a leader in the data center space: “Extreme Networks continues to innovate around the requirements of 100% data availability… This certification allows customers a continued path to virtualize all applications while minimizing the cost and complexity of doing so.”

Where does Extreme fit in a Vblock scenario? As the data center market continues to spike with unprecedented data growth, Vblocks must communicate with other Vblocks. If flawless communication between multiple Vblocks is required, Extreme’s BlackDiamond X8 could be the only switch to meet such needs.
