Part I – What is Digital Signage?

According to Wikipedia, Digital signage is a form of electronic display that shows information, advertising and other messages. Digital signs (such as LCD, LED, plasma displays, or projected images) can be found in public and private environments, such as retail stores and corporate buildings.

To sum it up, digital signage uses some sort of display panel to show or advertise dynamic and rich-media content. Digital signage can present up-to-date content remotely over a network. Since the content is relevant and dynamic, people are 5 to 10 times more likely to pay attention vs. traditional signage.

Digital signage is a type of “out of home advertising” and will sometimes be referred to as “digital out of home” or DOOH.

Since broadband infrastructure is becoming more widely available and display panels are becoming more affordable, digital signage is more prevalent than ever before and is showing increasing adoption. Digital signage allows for improved content update consistency and efficiency while reducing costs associated with content distribution and time spent updating and managing that content.

Digital signage is an ideal solution for almost any type of location – including areas where people wait, walk by, shop or gather.
