The California Highway Patrol is going to test out an e-ticketing system using rugged mobile computers. This pilot will pave the way for the whole state to implement an e-ticketing solution for traffic citations.
The six month pilot will begin on Sept. 30 and is using 400 Motorola devices. It will cost $2.4m, which the CHP received in a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. The full statewide implementation is still a few years out.
The CHP already knows about several of the efficiency improvements that will be made with e-ticketing and see the value in implementing a new system.
